Choosing the right tomato variety is an important strategic consideration for growers and retailers. Growing conditions, personal preferences and market conditions play a major role. De Ruiter is one of the largest suppliers of tomato seeds, with a wide range of varieties in all segments. To enable growers and retailers to quickly choose the right tomato, De Ruiter launched an online tomato tool: We Love Tomatoes.
Based on eight questions, that can be answered in just thirty seconds, the participant gets a clear advice. In that advice, as many as sixty tomato varieties are included, in all segments from beef and vine tomatoes to cocktail, cherry and specialities. When filling out the answers, you will see the tomato ‘mature’ to the final recommendation.
Two perspectives
In the beginning of the series of questions, the visitor chooses a clear position: answer the questions from a growers point of view or from a 'consumer perspective', like wholesalers and retailers often do. This last perspective is highly valued; in conversations with both traders, retailers and growers the tomatoes tool can be used to look at the different tomatoes through the eyes of the consumer.
Direct link
For the convenience of visitors to We Love Tomatoes, there are many direct links. For example, the tomato tool directly refers to the smart Rootmap, with which one can select the best rootstock for a tomato. Obviously the visitor can go directly to the website of De Ruiter, after which a choice of languages is possible, and there is a direct view of the available account managers.
The tomato tool is available in Dutch and English. The English site can be found at www.welovetomatoes.eu and is suitable for both iPad and laptop and desktop.
