Russia: Belgorod region to upgrade 12 ha, construct 82.6 hectares of greenhouse

Greenhouses in Belgorod region hope to increase the production of greenhouse vegetables up to 37,500 tons per year by 2015. In order to achieve this result, the regional authorities plan to upgrade more than 12 ha of greenhouses and construct 82.6 hectares of new greenhouses.

In 2013 the Belgorod region greenhouses supplied about 12 million tons of greenhouse vegetables. The first stage of greenhouse complex "Teplitzy Belogoriya"("Belogoriye Greenhouses"), covering the area of 13.8 hectares, was put into operation last year. In June 2014, the construction of another 5.6 hectares of "Belogoriye Greenhouses" is to be completed. And another one greenhouse complex of 14 hectares will be put into operation this year.

At present, the total area of all greenhouses in Russia is 1,800 hectares. Planned substantial investments into Belgorod region’s greenhouse industry will increase greenhouse farming area in the region up to 400-500 ha.
