India: Short supply of veggies pushes prices up by 25-30%

As summer temperatures rise, a shortage of produce in the region has resulted in a vegetable price rise of 20 to 30 per cent in retail markets. In the last 10 to 15 days, the supply of vegetables has fallen considerably.

"There has been a drop of about 20 per cent in the supply of vegetables at the Jahavwadi wholesale market and the prices are going northwards," said Nana Adhane, secretary of the Aurangabad Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), on Friday.
