US (WV): New greenhouse in full bloom just in time for Easter season

A lifelong dream is about to come true for one local resident just in time for Easter. Pam Bates - along with her husband, Gary - are preparing to open MiMi's Greenhouse & Homespun Collections off Files Creek Road. "My wife always raised gardens and plants," Gary Bates said. "It has always been a dream of hers to do this. She is like a kid in a candy store."

Even though this has been a lifelong dream, it didn't begin to bloom until late last fall. That's when the couple constructed a state-of-the-art greenhouse near the Beverly Post Office.

The large facility was purchased from Nexus, a Colorado firm specializing in sophisticated, energy-efficiency greenhouses.

In January, the couple had the electrical and heating systems installed at the facility, with a high-tech watering system coming later on. "The greenhouse runs off a solar energy system," Gary Bates said. "In zero weather, it will be 80 degrees in the greenhouse."

When even more inclement weather strikes, two gas furnaces take over to supplement the heat.
