US (MO): Frost remains concern for seasoned grower

The growing season is here, but the frost remains a concern for greenhouse growers. Theta Steinert, a greenhouse grower for over 20 years, still has problems with the frost. She says she lost over 100 flats of plants so far this year to the frost and cautions others to hold off on planting sensitive plants, like tomatoes, until the mid to later part of May.

April 8th marked the 7 year anniversary of a freeze that happened in Missouri and caused over 400 million dollars in damage to crops. In Springfield that year, the temperature dropped to around 20 degrees.
