US (OH): Registration for Organic Farming Program’s spring meeting open till April 3

Ohio State University’s Organic Food and Farming Education and Research (OFFER) program holds its 2014 spring symposium, “Partnering for Growth and Success in Organic Agriculture,” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 7 in Fisher Auditorium at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Centre (OARDC), 1680 Madison Ave., in Wooster.

OFFER and OARDC are both part of Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). OARDC is the college’s research arm.

The symposium, which is for anyone interested in organic food and farming, especially growers and scientists, will feature current research projects on organic crop production by scientists with Ohio State and Purdue University.

Admission is free, open to the public and includes lunch, but registration is required by April 3.

The topics and speakers will include:
  • “Understanding Grower Needs and Conceptions of Weed Management in Organic Systems” by Doug Doohan, CFAES.
  • “Resources to Enhance Organic Vegetable Yield and Quality” by Matt Kleinhenz,CFAES.
  • “Biofertilizer and Biopesticide Inputs for Organic Growers” by Brian McSpadden Gardener, CFAES.
  • “Overview of Organic Research at Purdue University” by Lori Hoagland, Purdue.
The program also will include a moderated discussion with stakeholders, team breakout sessions and a wrap-up session.
