Canada: New Taks packing line for Beverly Greenhouses
Recently the packing and sorting of cucumbers become easier at Beverly Greenhouses in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada. In the past, the entire supply and removal of packaging around the grading machine was carried out manually and labour intensive. In October 2013 TAKS Tuinbouwtechniek installed a complete new packaging handling concept. The supplied crates with cucumbers are de-stacked of the harvest trolley, divided over two processing lines, emptied automatically. Later, the empty crates are carried away pre-stacked again on a harvesting trolley.
The co-worker at the conveyor belt which supplies the sealer should now mainly focus on the quality of the cucumbers and less on the filling of the sealer. The supply of the sealer runs synchronic with the sealing machine.
The two lines with sealers provide an optimal supply to the grader, allowing a capacity of 19 à 20,000 cucumbers to be processed per hour. The packed cucumbers are transported on a central belt to a sticker machine and then distributed to one of the palletising systems where they are automatically stacked on a pallet, ready for further transport.
The processing line now combines a significant labour savings with a high capacity and quick return of investment.
