Luigi Bompadre (Verde Pianura):

Italian grower cultivates mini cucumbers to diversify production

Italian grower Luigi Bompade cultivates the Cucamelon at the Verde Pianura commercial farm located in Sant'Elpidio a Mare (Marche). "I bought the seeds online from England. I cultivate the crop hydroponically in greenhouse on around 2,500 sq m. Harvesting started on 20th September 2013 and ended at the beginning of December", Bompadre said.

The produce is packed by the company in re-sealable 100 g packets that can contain around 24-25 fruits and sold in local supermarkets.

"We aim at increasing our production for next year, as it is ideal between September and December, when temperatures decrease and favour setting."

Very tasty and of excellent quality, Cucamelons are ideal for snacks and in salads.

The company is available on TACLER (www.tacler.com).
