Hybrid habanero shows at least a production increase of 30%

Sales of greenhouse vegetable breeder Eminent Seeds double annually

During the PMA in New Orleans, Jan van Heijningen and Joke Kras of Eminent Seeds presented the latest specialty varieties for global greenhouse cultivation. The company can now offer sufficient seeds for the cultivation of some fifty different exclusive greenhouse vegetables. "We started a commercial breeding company out of our nursery fifteen years ago. We have in those ten years gained extensive knowledge and were able to develop various commercial varieties. Since three years we’ve been selling seeds, and volumes have doubled each year!"

The new catalogue of Eminent Seeds displays a wide choice of varieties. When asked if people never get tired of all those endless new varieties, John replies: "People never get tired. What we see as normal, is refreshing and surprising for a lot of people. We are in fact ten years ahead of what the average consumer is aware of here in the United States. The US has no production company that focuses purely on specialties, not yet anyway.”

In recent years, Jan signals a substantial increase in the cherry tomato mix, consisting of pink, green, purple, red, brown, yellow, orange and white cherry, complemented by the green and red tiger species. "Another major development is that of the first hybrid habanero. This is a great addition to our range for the future. The hybrid habanero shows at least a production increase of 30%, and in some cases even 50%."
