UK: Flavourfresh Salads wins big at 8th Tastiest Tomato Competition

2013 has just witnessed the 8th Tastiest Tomato Competition, sponsored by Marks and Spencer, organised by the British Tomato Growers’ Association and held at the National Fruit Show in Kent. Staged towards the end of the British tomato season, there was no shortage of entries in four separate classes at the show, ranging from tiny cherries to buxom beefsteaks, proof of the skill of British growers and the great benefits of growing crops in glasshouses in today’s unpredictable climate.



The overall winner and recipient of the David Stapley Cup was the cherry variety Sweet Rosso, grown in Lancashire by Andy Roe of Flavourfresh Salads. Second place was awarded to another cherry variety Sweet Green grown by David Barker of Flavourfresh Salads and David also took third place with the plum variety Lipso.



Other category winners were:

  • Beef Category, Wight Salads Group with variety Tomimaru Muchoo
  • Classic Category, Cornerways Nursery with variety Temptation
  • Cocktail Category, Flavourfresh Salads with variety Lipso
  • Cherry and baby plum category, Flavourfresh Salads with variety Sweet Rosso
