US(WI): Plant container recycling event at Wisconsin nursery
Johnson’s Nursery, Inc. has been in business for over 54 years. As the company grows, it continues to supply it’s customers with high quality plants and services but is also doing its part to reduce plastic horticultural waste. Across the U.S., millions of pounds of agricultural plastics are discarded in local landfills every year. “The more landscape plastics we collect and recycle, the more effective we become at closing the recycling loop,” said Mr. Chad Johnson, President and owner of Johnson’s Nursery, Inc.
According to East Jordan Plastics, Inc., the manufacturer and recycler of plastic plant containers, recycling plastic plant containers can recover upwards of 60% of the energy put into processing the product initially.
This event is being held only once during the 2013 growing season; however, during the 2014 growing season, the recycling collection will become a monthly event at Johnson's Nursery, Inc. because it will allow customers a viable option for recycling used pots that provide the necessary materials to manufacture new pots and ultimately divert these plastics from our local landfills. This program provides sustainable situation for Waukesha County residents and businesses.
