US (CT): Stonington commission to take up greenhouse proposal
The Planning and Zoning Commission is slated to hold a preliminary discussion Tuesday night with a developer that wishes to construct a commercial greenhouse on the site of an unbuilt 11-lot residential subdivision off Palmer Street behind the Whistle Stop restaurant building.
Jameson Way Property Management would need a special use permit to operate the greenhouse and process agricultural products in the DB-5 zone. Town regulations do not allow agriculture in the DB-5 zone so Jameson Way is describing the operation as the processing. bottling and conversion of agricultural products, according to a report prepared by Town Planner Keith Brynes.
Plans call for growing crops indoors using hydroponic methods and sold wholesale to retailers and restaurants. There would be no retail sales. The greenhouse would not tie in to sewer and water lines but use a wells and septic system.
