US (CT): Conn. greenhouse receives $15K USDA grant for solar system
A family-run garden center in Canterbury is receiving a grant of more than $14,500 to install a solar system that will generate about 37,000 kW of electricity per year, and eliminate more than 25 metric tons of carbon dioxide emission annually.
US Rep. Joe Courtney has announced that Hart's Greenhouse and Florist is receiving the funding from the US Department of Agriculture's Rural Energy for America Program.
Owner Joyce Hart says the solar system will enable the business to produce its own electricity and curb energy costs. Hart says it also will help the garden center to expand its newest venture into greenhouse vegetable production.
Courtney says the project is vital to reducing Connecticut's carbon emissions and help the country reduce dependence on foreign sources of energy.
