combo LED interlighting and 1000W HID:

Hybrid system used to grow perfect roses

For three months now trials have been under way at the GreenQ Improvement Centre to grow a perfect rose of the Red Naomi breed. These trials are taking place over an area of 1000 m2 with the help of a hybrid lighting system, which is made up of a combination of Philips GreenPower 1000 W (HID) and Philips GreenPower LED Interlighting modules.

Trials and results

The aim is to grow roses of perfect quality in an energy-efficient and sustainable way, in a production set-up that is comparable to actual practice but with new climate technology and diffuse glass. Via LED interlighting it is possible to stimulate shoot growth in an efficient way, which will result in extra production of good quality roses. This hybrid system has already proved its added value in terms of extra production at various growers’ places. New in this trial is that it is combined with higher targets on sustainability, quality and production, by using a new growing strategy. The trial is monitored by a group of growers and experts from amongst others Wageningen University and GreenQ.

During the year in which this project is being monitored it will become clear whether it is also possible to perfect the quality of the roses in this way.
