Germany: Scherzer-Gemüse builds new 7ha greenhouse complex

German company Scherzer-Gemüse from Nürnberg is in the process of building a 7 hectare greenhouse complex for the production of tomatoes in Dinkelsbuehl / Waldeck, reports the German website Gabot.de.

The company's new location is not chosen without reason: "We have chosen this location because of its proximity to cogeneration plant TEAtherm GmbH. We can use waste heat from the power plant for the CO2-neutral heating of our greenhouses.”

The project is estimated to generate approximately 60 to 70 new jobs in Dinkelsbuhl. According to a report from the newspaper Hohenloher Tagblatt, the company intends to stick to the ambitious timetable despite delays caused by the weather. If all goes according to plan, March 2014 should see the first tomato harvest.
