Dinant is a Honduran based company which manufactures, distributes and sells mass-market consumer goods. Through its agricultural division, it obtains palm oil, bananas, corn and fresh vegetables, which are processed and then exported to destinations all over the world, helping Dinant become Honduras' fastest growing multinational, generating employment and producing and consuming raw goods and inputs for the elaboration of its products.
The company offers a wide range of products in the divisions of: homecare, with softeners, cleaning products, chlorine and soap; and food, with snacks, sauces, tomato puree, ketchup, sweets, margarine, oil and butter, produced in its factories of Comayagua, Cortés and Colón, in Honduras.
Jessie Inestroza, Agricultural Marketing Manager of Dinant, says that the company also has 600 hectares in Nicaragua for the production of bananas and 15,000 hectares of African palm in northern Honduras. "In Central America, we represent Mazola, a well-established vegetable oil brand."
The firm exports Morrón peppers of yellow, orange and red colour produced in Honduras and distributed in the United States and Canada; it also produces Jalapeño peppers for the North American market. Of everything produced in the plantations, almost every product is then processed, expect for peppers, which are intended for fresh consumption, but even some of the peppers that remain unsold are used for pickles and sautéed and fresh sauces to be sold in Central America and the Dominican Republic.
The executive added that, "we import a part of the raw goods used for the manufacture of snacks, such as peanuts, corn, potatoes, bananas, yucca, and for the food category, purees, flavourings, dehydrated vegetables, dehydrated shrimp, dehydrated chicken, corn oil, cinnamon and soya, among others."
The company is always open to offers from new certified suppliers. According to the Marketing Manager, "our export produce meets strict regulations, and for the fresh produce we demand the implementation of the HACCP for food safety, the SQF for quality, Good Agricultural Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices."
All of Dinant's fresh products are grown under strict international regulations including the use of chemicals approved by the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States of America (EPA) and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Regarding market opportunities, Jessie Inestroza assures that, "in May, all our October exports were already under contract. This year, for example, we will export close to 1 million boxes of Morrón peppers, and although it would be possible to reach deals with new clients, it will not be possible to materialise them until next season (2014/2015)."
