Europe: House Fair offers insight into trends pepper, tomato and eggplant

The House Fair by Dutch seed company Enza Zaden not only gives an overview of the range of the operator, but also provides opportunity to find out what traders look for when selecting a product. The specialists of Enza Zaden are on hand to explain the developments of various varieties of tomato, eggplant and pepper.

TomAzur, Sweet Conical and Tribelli, Eazyleaf and RedStar Romantic. In order to market the brands of Enza Zaden, the company is working with growers provided with the specific varieties. "We therefore want innovative growers who really want to invest in a variety," says Buijks.

Much attention is paid to the vine tomato Diamantino. "The deep red color and strong green parts are important properties for the retail," says Wim Buijks. Diamantino is a medium vine and Buijks notes that growers sometimes struggle with the choice between coarse and medium. "With a coarse vine one can achieve more production - but traders and supermarkets tend to opt for medium," he explains. For example, Asda, Edeka and Net Market ask specifically for a medium size and are also willing to pay a premium price. "Especially in the Winter season."
