Netherlands: First hydroponic winter cauliflower harvested

The first hydroponic Winter cauliflower was harvested in week 17 in the prgram of "teelt de grond uit" in the Netherlands. The ‘Sidor’ variety was placed on a floating production system in August of last year. If risk of frost was present, the crop was protected with a double layer of acrylic fabric. Performance under these conditions was surprisingly good.

In a trial conducted a year earlier (2011/2012), the crop was protected with a single layer of acrylic fabric and hence did not survive. In the trial of last season different feeding schedules were maintained. With the best performing variant, a relatively high doses of nitrogen was administered during cultivation.
