Sustainable Farm Field Trip will pay a visit to Houwelings in Camarillo:

Seedstock to Host 2nd Annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference in Los Angeles

Seedstock will be hosting The 2nd Annual Seedstock Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Conference – Farming: Fundamentals and the Future, which will explore solutions and business models with the potential to assist local producers in increasing their presence in the supply chain. Slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, November 5-6, 2013, the conference will address the economic opportunities and environmental and societal benefits of embracing, developing, and investing in sustainable farms, practices, technologies, and start-up companies.

“Every day, our world faces new challenges. Among the most vital to man’s existence is the need to establish local, sustainable food sources for a growing, global population,” stated Robert Puro. “Seedstock fosters innovation and entrepreneurship in sustainable agriculture by bringing together farmers, investors, and other like-minded individuals in anticipation that new partnerships will be forged and, ultimately, creative solutions to feeding the world will be found.”

The first day of the event offers a Sustainable Farm Field Trip. The tour will range from urban agriculture operations (EVO Farm’s aquaponic setup) to large-scale hydroponic and field farms (Houweling’s hydroponic farm in Camarillo) and give participants a unique opportunity to closely examine successful sustainable farming in Southern California.

On Day 2, attendees will convene at the UCLA Anderson School of Management in Los Angeles for a series of panels including: Growers Embracing Innovative Business Models; Controlled Environment Agriculture; Supply Chain Innovation; and Investment in Farms and Ag Innovation. The conference also will feature Seedstock’s own Agripreneur Fast Pitch Competition in which select sustainable ag start-up companies will promote their endeavors to every segment of the sustainability community, including venture capitalists, researchers, media, and other entrepreneurs.
