Wireless sensors:

"Measuring homogeneity is the first step to improve greenhouse climate"

Wireless Value in the Dutch town of Emmen regularly organizes seminars, in which growers and other interested parties are informed about achieving the ideal climate in greenhouses. At the May 16 meeting in 's Gravenzande, this subject was again on the agenda.

According to Bas Visser of Wireless Value, growers find it increasingly important to have an accurate understanding of the climate in their nurseries. "During the last meeting, we worked with a researcher from the University of Wageningen who gave a presentation about the perfect greenhouse climate. Measuring the homogeneity in a greenhouse is the first step to improve the climate," says Visser. “The Agri Sensys Wireless Value system can play an important role in achieving this goal.”

Agri Sensys is a dense, wireless sensor network, with which the homogeneity in greenhouses can be objectively measured and recorded. The active and interested visitors of the presentation have been able to see exactly how that process is achieved and how all relevant data are presented to the grower using a web app. According to Bas Visser a consistent climate in the greenhouse is important for maximum yield. "Also, it contributes to low energy consumption and a reduced risk of disease.”

Given the increasing interest, Visser expects further seminars to take place on the subject.
