breeder notes increassing demand for cherry tomatoes:
Dutch Trial Center Tomato of Rijk Zwaan in full production
Last March, the Trial Center Tomato in Kwintsheul, The Netherlands was reopened to visitors. This season there is a large number of varieties in the demo greenhouse of Rijk Zwaan, which are tested and compared under field conditions.
"Now that all varieties have gone into production, the differences become evident," says Ben Zwinkels of Rijk Zwaan. "So far I’m fairly positive, especially since the range is developing in all segments. This year, a lot of attention goes to the ‘mid vine' and the ‘specialties', the small snack tomatoes. There is increasing demand for cherry tomatoes and we’re in the process of expanding this segment.”

Many visitors from both inside and outside the country take the opportunity to see, smell and taste the assorted tomato range. Growers, retailers, crop managers, representatives of restaurants, visitors come from all over the world. Also in Spain, Rijk Zwaan has the ability to receive visitors in their demo nurseries.
On Thursday, September 5th, the annual demo day in Kwintsheul will once again take place. A varied group of industry people will gather to discuss developments in the range of Rijk Zwaan and to exchange ideas about the tomato market.
