FloraHolland flower auction changes its cooperative structure

On April 25 the Flower and Plant advisory councils of FloraHolland issued a positive recommendation about a proposal to change the board structure. Under the new system the board of directors and the supervisory board will be merged into one.

The endorsement is the outcome of a meticulous process of consultation with interested members. On the basis of this recommendation, a vote will be taken at the members’ annual general meeting on June 6. The FloraHolland board would like to discuss this topic with its members beforehand. Therefore, regional meetings have been organized in May across the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium.

What has changed?

Since the end of 2012, the FloraHolland board has been talking to its members about a new board structure. With this positive recommendation from the advisory councils, there is now a concrete proposal in place to merge the board and the supervisory board into a new supervisory board.

Adjustment of the board structure is necessary, the auction feels, because in practice a different working method is used than the one foreseen in the statutes. This proposal is a logical continuation of the strengthening of the advisory structure implemented in 2012 with the introduction of the product committees (FPCs) and the advisory councils and ensures that the members continue to have a say.
