Bayer introduces vegetable seeds on Colombian market

Bayer, under the brand Nunhems, will offer different crop seed varieties for specialized audiences.

John Jairo Mejia, business manager of Fruits & Vegetables and responsible for the brand Nunhems in the Andean countries says that "strengthening this business is part of the company's global commitment to improve global food security. Our ultimate goal is to become the favorite ally of all of the Colombian farmers to introduce innovation in fruit and vegetable crops."

Currently, Colombia has a broad portfolio of seeds for crops of bulb onions or loggerheads, (where Nunhems, with 50% of the market, leads the market), as well as seeds for tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, cabbage, and watermelon, mainly. It is estimated that, today, Colombia's vegetable seed market is of more than US 20 million and that a greater diversification of this market will be need because of the dietary changes of Colombian consumers, the access to products of higher quality and professionalism in the kitchen.

Bayer's Nunhems brand offers varieties of seeds for different crops for specialized audiences seeking more juicy fruits and vegetables that are crisp, colorful and have the perfect size. An example is the Tomato Intense, released last year, which, thanks to its high retention of juices, is perfect for making sandwiches and preparations that require very thin slices, juices and soups, broths, grilled and baked dishes.

Worldwide, Bayer has 2,500 varieties of seeds for 28 different crops and 26 experimentation and development facilities, with which they meet the needs of 14 countries around the world. This makes Bayer the largest company offering seeds for horticultural production.
