Spain (Almeria): Cucumbers and courgettes on sale for low prices

Price levels are relatively low in the Almeria region in Spain, according to numbers. Mid-April is very irregular in terms of the traditional winter products. Courgettes and cucumbers are very low-priced and make little money for growers.

Many now sell winter products for competitive prices. The thick zucchini goes for less than 24 cents with peaks up to 8 cents, and the small zucchini fetches only between 20 and 30 cents per kilo. The long eggplant is priced between 40 and 70 cents per pound, and other species vary between 1 Euro and 90 cents per kilo.

Spring cucumbers are sold for around 20 cents, the French cucumber is between 20 and 37 cents and black cucumbers are traded for 30 to 50 cents per kilo.

Tomato prices drop prematurely because of the new harvest. The ribbed tomato has an average price of 80 cents, the pear-shaped tomato is priced between 45 and 50 cents per kilo.

The Italian green pepper is between 30 and 95 cents per kilo. The production of pepper is scarce, the red pepper is more expensive than the green one.

Melons have a stable price that is lower than last week, as a result of market volumes.
