TOM System used for peppers as well as tomatoes

Clipping peppers an alternative to twisting

Sweet pepper is one of the most important crops grown in greenhouses worldwide. In the Netherlands, the heart of the greenhouse industry, there are about 700 hectares of greenhouse peppers.

In order to tie the plants to the twine, most of the growers twist the plants around the twine or they use bio degradable clips. Both techniques have big disadvantages: twisting requires very skilled labour and many plant stems are broken, and bio degradable clips are very expensive

Agrifast has launched the Tom System, a tying method which holds the crop to the twine using a staple. Initially it was developed for tomato crops, but more and more pepper growers are starting to use it, as it is fast, user friendly, cheaper than bio-clips, and reduces the plant stress avoiding twisting.

This video shows how it is possible to clip pepper plants in a greenhouse in the Netherlands without the need of twisting them.
