Netherlands: First home-grown organic peppers and tomatoes harvested at Naturelle

From March 26, the season’s first Dutch organic sweet pointed peppers and tomatoes are available at Naturelle, the organic branch of The Greenery. The products are provided by Naturelle growers Matthijs and Antoine van Luijk from St. Annaland.

"After the expansion of our organic company, we’ve started to grow (besides yellow peppers and tomatoes) cucumbers, red peppers, sweet pointed peppers and vine tomatoes. Together with Naturelle, we cater to the growing demand for organic products," says Matthijs van Luijk.

The sweet pointed peppers are a little earlier this year. "We have switched to the Cooper variety. These colour much faster, so we can harvest earlier.” Sweet pointed peppers are a growing product in the organic sector. "Some of our retail customers even choose to replace the usual sweet pointed peppers by organic ones," says Berry Olsthoorn, Commercial Manager at Naturelle.

The range of organic fruit vegetables at Naturelle will in a few weeks be extended with tomatoes, yellow and red peppers and eggplants. The Dutch harvest season lasts until mid-October.
