Moderate price for red peppers at the start of the Dutch season

"Netherlands: "Extra demand for yellow peppers close to Easter"

"The supply is starting, but it is slow because of the weather conditions," said John van Marrewijk of Rainbow International tells about the Dutch peppers. Prices for orange and yellow peppers are at a good level, red is somewhat behind because of competition from Spain and Israel.

"Red, orange and yellow started carefully this week. Next week this will increase," said John van Marrewijk of Rainbow International tells about the Dutch peppers. "Prices for orange and yellow are at a good level, red started slowly. Red meets with a lot of competition from Israel and Spain, the others are grown not as much," he explains. The question is whether the good prices for orange and yellow can be continued. "During the coming week definitely. There is extra demand for yellow at Easter. Prices are under pressure again, when production starts, but the level should remain for a little while still."

The last few weeks the green pepper had a difficult period, as the 'traffic light' packing was filled with expensive Spanish and Israeli product, decreasing the demand as a result. "This has now changed," Van Marrewijk says. "They change completely to Dutch product for the traffic light, therefore the demand for green increases."

From the quality of the Spanish and Israeli product it is noticeable that the season is close to the end. "The Spanish product loses quality. The quality from Israel is still good. Although during the coming period will decrease further. And the durability is not very good. It is now better in the Netherlands" Van Marrewijk says.
