US: NOP issues report on biotech test methods and protocols

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) has issued a report titled Biotech Test Methods and Protocols for Use in Organic Compliance, available online as a 23-page PDF file. In 2012, the Office of the Inspector General recommended that the NOP conduct a study of testing methods that may be used to detect the presence of genetically modified materials in organic livestock feed. This report summarizes current guidance available to certifiers and producers regarding sampling and testing for GM material; describes testing technologies currently used to test organic livestock feed products for the presence of GM material; and discusses the sampling methods used to back up the testing technology.
