"This year we will produce approximately one million plants. Quality is good, thanks to the good weather of the past two weeks, which has made it easy to accumulate essential oils," explains Stefano Valleri, owner of the company.
"Products are shipped to the main distribution networks in plastic containers, so there's a water reserve as well as labels reporting all of the information regarding the traceability of the product (producing company, plot etc.) and the organic certification."
Basil is shipped in cartons that contain 12 plants, whereas other plants are shipped in 8-plant boxes.
"The first pallets destined to retailers are leaving this week, and it's far too early to make an assessment on how the season will go. The sale of these type of plants depends on the weather and also on an emotional factor that cannot be predicted."
"50 to 60% of our sales take place during March, April and May. As far as foreign competition goes, we can say it is actually irrelevant. During the winter some chives arrive from Germany as well as some cut basil from Israel," concludes Stefano Valleri.
