EU: Driscoll’s offers first glasshouse strawberries

Driscoll's first glasshouse strawberries from their Benelux growers are now on the market. The unique variety Driscoll’s® Lusa™ has proven to be productive for glasshouse production. Driscoll’s® Lusa™ is a rather large strawberry with a fresh sweet flavour and a light red colour. The fresh appearance and high quality of the fruit is appealing for the consumer, Driscoll's says. Driscoll’s® Lusa™ glasshouse strawberries are available in 8*500 g, 12*400 g and 10*250 g packaging.

Also for the growers there are considerable advantages. The Driscoll’s® Lusa™ has a very interesting production flow and is high yielding. It starts relatively early (mid March) and keeps producing until the beginning of July without steep production peaks. The big advantage for the grower is that he reduces risks by being less dependent on one production period. This structural production is also beneficial for the picking crew as the capacity is rather equally spread throughout the season. As the Driscoll’s® Lusa™ does not require extra lightning, it also has a positive effect on energy usage and thus the environmental footprint. In addition, the percentage class 2 fruit is very low with Driscoll’s® Lusa™.

Growing Driscoll’s® Lusa™ in glasshouses is another example of how Driscoll’s is continuously innovating the berry category. Besides strawberries, Driscoll’s also has an integrated approach for their unique raspberries, blackberries and blueberries.
