South Africa: First retractable roof system from Cravo arives

The first container of the 2 hectare “CRAVO” greenhouse system from Canada, arrives at Rietvlei in South Africa. According to Richard Vollebrecht, president of their company, this is the very first retractable roof system, built by CRAVO, that will be erected on the continent of Africa.

Rietvlei is situated in the valley of Montagu in the Little Karoo. The Little Karoo forms part of the Western Cape Province in South Africa. The farm grows different varieties of capsicum, but due to the extreme heat of which this area is well known for, severe damage is often caused by uncontrollable calcium deficiency and sunburn, as well as high winds.

The unique retractable roof system should prove itself worthy of eliminating this kind of loss, as well as providing excellent growing conditions during the very cold winter season, when Rietvlei endeavours to export and supply the local supermarkets with peppers of different colours and shapes as well as other commodities.
