Germany: Fewer peppers available

The supply of available peppers has clearly diminished in week 7. Both Israel and Spain are delivering smaller volumes than in previous weeks. The ripening of the fruit has seen significant delays due to lack of sunlight, especially with yellow peppers. The tight supply has boosted price levels considerably. Compared to the two previous years however, they aren’t excessive. The green peppers, available from the Benelux, are still very small and mostly end up in flow packs with a mixture of different colours.

As peppers at major supermarket chains are often sold for discount prices, the supply might be even tighter next week. On the whole, price levels vary among different retailers. Red peppers for example, are priced between 1.82 and 2.76 Euro per kg.
