Guatemala: Priva and Popoyán to open CIPPP training centre

On March 8th, 2013, Priva and local dealer Popoyán will open a new training centre in Guatemala, CCIPPP. This will be the first horticulture training centre in the Central American region.

CCIPPP (Centro de Capacitación, Innovación y Producción Popoyán Priva) has been set up as a production campus where innovative, successful horticulture technologies are demonstrated and explained and their capabilities are tested under local conditions. Vegetables are produced using the latest horticulture practices and there is capacity for research by other companies in the production chain. CCIPPP concentrates on advancing horticulture in Guatemala and surrounding Central American countries.

CCIPPP is a joint venture between Popoyán and Priva. The training centre site covers 2.5 hectares of greenhouses, where two hectares are for production and training and half a hectare is for research projects. In addition to this, the site has offices, an irrigation area and a modern auditorium. Tomatoes and paprikas are grown in the greenhouses. A further expansion of the production and training facilities is planned for 2015.
About Popoyán

Popoyán has been involved in innovation in the agriculture industry for more than thirty years. CCIPPP initiatives dovetail with Popoyán's core activities of introducing innovative solutions to the region and thereby increasing production. The arrival of the CCIPPP training centre makes new technology available to the growers in the region.

Why is Priva involved?

Priva offers growers worldwide solutions for realizing their growing ambitions. Growers who participate in CCIPPP learn how they can increase their production in a responsible manner. Using Priva's technological solutions and the right knowledge, they achieve an increase in production with less use of water and energy. In addition to this, methods are supplied to reduce the use of pesticides in the horticulture industry or even to eradicate use completely.

Priva has plans to open a total of ten international training centers in the coming years, with the aim of helping horticultural entrepreneurs around the globe to achieve their ambitions. CCIPPP was made possible by a subsidy from NL EVD International's PSI (Private Sector Investment program).
