Spain: Agrupaejido launches new line of organic products

AgrupaEjido (AE) continues devoted to meeting the needs of growers and clients in Spain and the rest of Europe. Quality and safety demands keep growing and this has forced the company, campaign after campaign, to renew and expand its certifications through increasingly stricter audits.

This week, AE has obtained the certification of organic agriculture, necessary for the commercialisation of these products. The technical department director, María del Mar García, expressed her satisfaction and stressed that "maximum effort and great attention to detail were necessary to achieve this goal."

The firm, with a long experience in the distribution of conventional products, had to adopt a new business philosophy that will strengthen its commitment to increasingly more sustainable, responsible and environmentally-friendly growing systems. Agrupaejido's Commercial Director, Juan Cano, assures that "this is a clear commitment to maximum quality and maximum safety for our vegetables."

Agrupaejido's organic produce area head is Diego Oller, a professional with a wide experience in the field. He said that "the firm expects to commercialise around 1.5 million kilos under this label, largely melons and watermelons, although also courgettes, cucumbers, aubergines, peppers and tomatoes."

The variety of organic products is almost as wide as that of conventional ones, although with some new additions.

Agrupaejido considers this a strategic step for the future of the firm. The General Director, Ángel Cañadas, believes that "entering the BIO/ECO market is a medium/long term initiative on which great hopes have been placed for its success." Cañadas explains that "these products are very demanded in Germany and other northern and central European countries." In Spain they are also growing year after year.

The centre for the reception and production of this new organic range is in the firm's location at La Mojonera, where the facilities have been adapted to meet the necessary conditions for the manipulation of these products, which are under constant surveillance. The group has added the word "Bio" when referring to these products and has created an exclusive brand for them, "allSUN".

Everything will be presented this week at one of the world's largest organic food events, the Biofach fair, which is taking place until Friday at the German city of Nuremberg. A delegation of the firm has scheduled a series of meetings to establish trade agreements with clients all over Europe.
