UK: 200 new horticultural jobs are to be created for UK workers

What’s on offer is free training with a guaranteed job at the end of it, paying an average of £200 to £450 per week depending on the role, for those who successfully complete the course. The horticulture and agriculture industry is seeing a revolution in recruitment that has resulted in an amazing opportunity for anyone in the UK looking for a change in career, a job with real prospects, or a new start.

“It’s taken some time to bring all of the pieces of the puzzle together, but with the support of the Minister for Employment’s working party, LANTRA, NFU, Jobcentre Plus, The National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs, City & Guilds, agricultural colleges, and most importantly our client farms that have created the 200 jobs for our pilot program, we can now finally offer this exceptional training, job and career opportunity to UK workers.” Says Laura Savage, Operations Manager for HOPS.

“The new HOPS scheme provides the right platform to highlight the varied and rewarding opportunities that exist in the horticultural and agricultural sectors and, more importantly, to help UK farmers attract UK talent into the industry.” Says James Neilson, Operations Manager, The Co-operative Group.

To put this into perspective, HOPS places around 11,000 people into positions at their 200 client farms across the UK each year, jobs that include harvesters, packers, team leaders, supervisors, line leaders, machinery operators, tractor drivers, spraying drivers, and a range of administration, technical and managerial roles that ensure the UK horticulture and agriculture industry, which contributes so much to our daily lives, stays strong.
Surprisingly well paid work

All of these roles will of course be paying at least the Agricultural Minimum Wage, and will also offer performance related wages that could achieve somewhere in the region of £300 a week, while some exceptional individuals could earn as much as £550+ per week. These are temporary roles but, due to the intense demand for good workers, if you are looking for regular work throughout the year and are prepared to move where the job takes you, then you could be making this sort of money on a regular basis. HOPS reports that some workers have been moving where the work is which has led to full time employment over the last two to three years.
Free training that could change your life

Don’t have experience? Not to worry – HOPS are becoming a City & Guilds approved Training Centre in order to offer all UK workers a pre-employment training program. This training will be a mandatory part of the recruitment process; however, on graduating not only will you have the knowledge you need to hit the ground running, but HOPS also guarantees you your first job offer.
