US: Research paper helps local governments support farmers markets

The Community Food Security Coalition and the Farmers Market Coalition have published Building Healthy Foundations for Farmers Markets: Recommendations for cities and counties. The 14-page research paper provides an overview of the various benefits farmers markets bring to communities and offers recommendations for a variety of ways local governments, as well as other community agencies, can support and strengthen farmers markets. The publication offers links to numerous resources describing how to establish farmers markets, how to become involved on a variety of levels, and how to align policies to support their ability to yield crosscutting benefits to farmers, consumers and communities.
