Philippines: Customs seize misdeclared vegetables

The Philippines Bureau of Customs has seized over $170,000 US worth of vegetables that had been declared as fruit and domestic goods to gain entry on lower tariff rates.
The news was announced by Customs Commissioner, Rozzano Rufino Biazon on his Twitter account, when he said: "BOC seizes misdeclared vegetables worth P7.5 million."

He did not reveal the source of the vegetables.

The customs find came amid expected rises in demand for fruits and vegetables due to the holiday season. As a result of this customs officials have been on high alert.
