Russia: Construction of 34 ha greenhouse will begin in Astrakhan this year

Construction of a greenhouse complex in Astrakhan will begin at the end of the year. The technological equipment will be imported from the Netherlands, reported the Head of Astrakhan's government, Mr. Oleg Polumordvinov.

Earlier they reported that the greenhouse complex would be located in Astrakhan on a 34 ha plot, and the greenhouse acreage would comprise 10 ha. The project will be carried out by a local company, the investments in construction are estimated to reach 32.5 million euros. Upon completion, the project will provide the region with fresh vegetables all year round. With the help of modern technologies, around 5 thousand tons of tomatoes a year will be grown in the enterprise.

“The project is at pre-investment stage, project works are being carried out. The land has been prepared for construction, construction is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of the year. The investor will be closely cooperating with Dutch company Dalsem on shipment of the required equipment”, said Mr. Polumordvinov.

According to him, the regional investment committee has appointed special status to the project, which entitles the company to tax cuts. The head of administration has underlined that the construction will be carried out by local companies. Moreover, after the complex is launched, about 150 people will be employed and for a period of 11 years 10.4 million euros will be received as taxes to the local budget.

According to the regional ministry of agriculture, the agricultural companies in Astrakhan collected 1.7 million tons of cucurbits and potatoes in 2017 (about 1.5 million tons in 2016). About 70% of the produce is sold outside the region. The new greenhouse complex would be the first of its kind in the region.
