Russia: 10 ha greenhouse complex under construction in Buryatia

Construction of the first phase of a greenhouse complex of 10.5 ha has begun in Gusinoozersk, according to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Buryatia. The greenhouses will produce over 9.7 thousand tons of vegetables per year.

“The project is unique; such greenhouses have never been built before in our area. If the first phase of 10 ha is successful, the investor is planning to enlarge the acreage up to 60 ha”, noted the Head of Buryatia, Mr. Aleksey Tsydenov.

Vegetable consumption in the republic is 53% of the norm established by the World Health Organization. A third of the produce is brought in from other regions or imported.

Moreover, there are no significant complexes producing cucumbers and tomatoes in Buryatia and adjacent regions.

Therefore the main consumer of the produce from the greenhouse complex will be the residents of Buryatia. The investor is considering other directions too. About a third of the produce will be delivered to the Zabaykalsky area, the Irkutsk region and others, including Mongolia.

The preparatory stage is over, currently LLC GK Gusinoozersky is attracting financing. The budget for the project is almost 27 million euros, 20 million of which will be loaned.
