Seven sections in greenhouse, operating independently:

France: New research greenhouse for seed breeder Florimond Desprez

Since May this year Prins Group started to build a very special and challenging turnkey project in France. The greenhouses will serve as research centers for seed breeding. This project is carried out with pride for SAS Florimond DESPREZ Veuve et Fils.

Prins Group is currently building a turnkey horticulture project for Florimond Desprez, a family company from France. The project consists of two small greenhouses with a total area of approx 1000 m². The greenhouses serve as research centers for seed breeding. Prins Group provides the engineering, production and realization of the project. Partner Stolze provides the greenhouses with irrigation, electrical and automation systems and partner Schep delivers heating and cooling systems. With this high technology organized by Prins Group and partners, the whole project will be conducted to the wishes of the customer.

Unique to this project is that the seven sections of which the greenhouse consists, can all operate independently of each other. In this way the four seasons winter, spring, summer and autumn can be simulated per section independently. So it can be high summer in section one, while at the same time, it’s winter in section four. These particular adjustments are necessary in order to bring the seed breeding process down from ten years to a process of approximately seven years. In this way the research can be done much more quickly and it saves a lot of costs.

The development of this greenhouse is a whole new concept and a great challenge for Prins Group. Specifics on this project are the roof and the walls, which are provided with 16mm thick diffuse glass. This double glass is coated with antireflection, so the greenhouse can be provided with artificial daylight. The glass is adjusted in a special way to make it even more isolating. The insulation value of this particular product is high, 1.8W / m²K. For example, when the outdoor temperature in August is 25 degrees, the time of year in section 3 will be midwinter, which means that it must be cooled considerably in that section to create the climate. This means the greenhouse has to be provided with a cooling system which can operate per section. This will be vice versa for heating the greenhouse to create summer in the sections, while it’s winter outside.

And if there’s a lot of light needed, then assimilation lights take care of that. These systems are provided by Prins Group and its partners.

The exterior of the greenhouse is equipped with screen installations and twin gable screens. Two meters above the greenhouse an outdoor hanging screen installation will be placed. These installations are placed to keep out the heat, when it’s very hot outside.

Environmental awareness is a high priority for the customer. That can been seen from the choice of materials and installations. Like with the different reverse osmosis installations; when the water is filtered, cleaned and disinfected, it is ready for re-use.
