VBT figures week 17

Cucumber prices remain clear of price dip

Currently, tomato prices are keeping pace with the price trends of recent years. The same now applies to bell peppers at the auctions of the Union of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives (VBT). In week 17, the price dipped just above the five-year average. An exception is the cucumber, whose price has moved horizontally in recent weeks, thus far avoiding the significantly lower prices at the end of April in 2022 and 2023.
The average price for loose tomatoes in week 17 is 1.03 euros per kilo. A kilo of TOVs averages 93.7 euro cents.

The average price per cucumber has remained stable in recent weeks, standing at 28.1 euro cents each in week 17.

Combining all colors of bell peppers, we find an average price that is still just above the five-year average. Last week, the average prices for yellow and red saw a significant drop, recording in week 17 at 1.67 euros per kilo for yellow and 1.57 euros for red. The average price for green is slightly higher at 1.93 euros, just a bit more than in week 16.

Another salad vegetable, which typically sees increased demand in sunny weather, is lagging behind the positive price development of cucumbers. The average price for head lettuce remains at 25 euro cents in week 17.

After a spike in prices in week 16, the price for strawberries in week 17 has dropped slightly. With an average of 4.67 euros per kilo, the price remains well above that of 2023 and the five-year average. The Elsanta (4.70) and Sonsation (5.16) varieties yielded slightly higher average kilo prices.
