"Horticulture in Syria is growing"

The Mediterranean climate in Turkey, Israel and Egypt makes those countries perfect for horticulture. Syria isn’t usually included in that list, although its climate is also perfectly suitable for horticulture. In the Syrian coastal area, between the cities Latakia and Tartous, there are a lot of nurseries, according to Miquel Ribera of Conic System. Conic system recently supplied two systems to a nursery in this area.

“These growers used to export their products to Russia and other East-European countries, but due to the war, the borders are closed for export. Now, they produce for the local market. And the production is even growing”, Miquel says. “The war mostly takes place in the east of Syria, near the border with Iraq and Turkey. The west side is relatively safe, and it is being secured by Russian soldiers.”

Andraos for Agriculture is a Christian company founded in Aleppo. The company produces and imports fertilizers, but when was occupied, Marwan Andraos and his family escaped to Tartous where they opened a new nursery to supply seedlings to the big amount of growers in the area.

"To upgrade the quality of their production, they needed a small seeder machine and a grafting robot to upgrade the quality of their production, Conic System installed the systems. Now they produce lettuces, tomatoes, peppers, squashes, pumpkins, melons and watermelons", tells Miquel.

Although Syria isn’t a country we often hear about in terms of horticulture, the industry there is growing. This means there are changes for suppliers as well.
