Challenges for Mexican propagation facilities
Greenhouse production in Mexico has been growing at a high rate in the last years, with about 23,000 hectares in 2014 and recently to more than 40,000 hectares. This puts propagation facilities in a great challenge to supply the demand of seedlings to all these greenhouses.
The interest for Mexican greenhouse production has made INA-Plastics eager to offer DTS trays for nursery production. The Greek company who developed Double Tray System-DTS, for propagating plants has been interested in the Mexican market for some years now, introducing DTS-trays as a solution for the polluting styrofoam or polystyrene trays used in the industry. Mexico’s market has a lot of work to do, resolving the use of polystyrene, as this is the standard in nursery facilities.
INA-Plastics is expanding their dealer nethwork. One of the partners is Distribuidora de Sustratos Agrícolas, DISA. This is a company dedicated to producing and distributing vermiculite and soilless mixtures as substrates for nurseries in Mexico. DISA has been developing and supplying material for greenhouses since 2010, and has been a contributor to all this greenhouse development through the last years. DISA will cover mainly the center region of Mexico with two warehouses, one at Irapuato, Guanajuato and a second one in Mexico City.
"With joint ventures like these, we are putting efforts to offer DTS-trays in affordable pricing and supply availability for all growers. We aim to cover propagation for greenhouse growing as well as field grown crops, like tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelons, broccoli, onions, asparagus, lettuce, strawberry, agave and others."
