Migros Central Switzerland awards annual producer prize

Golden sun prize for innovative family of growers

The Boog family from Hünenberg ZG was awarded the 'Golden Sun' producer prize by Migros Lucerne. The Boogs have been supplying the retailer with vegetables, salads and berries for 24 years.

Since 1999, Migros Lucerne has had a 'Thank You Very Much-Day' every year. This way, the firm can thank its reliable producers. On this day, the producer of the year is chosen as well. In 2018, the choice fell on the Boog family from Hünenberg. These growers have been supplying Migros Central Switzerland for 24 years.

Day of Regional Products
On 1 May, Migros had a 'holiday'. With the first 'Day of Regional Products', it wanted to point to its regional range of products. Migros Lucerne claims to have the most regional products on its shelves; 1,370 Swiss specialties from around 1,000 producers.

In 2017, with the slogan 'From the region. For the region' Migros Central Switzerland saw revenues of 131 million francs; 1.8 percent more than in 2016. The share of foodstuffs was 14.7 percent.

Fifth generation
The Boog family has been working their farm in the fertile Reus valley for five generations. Being elected ‘Producer of the Year’, a number of their priorities were particularly appreciated. Firstly, this family relies on innovation, with delicate products such as Jerusalem artichokes and snack vegetables (tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers) being part their range. Furthermore, there is the takeover of Müller Gemüse AG in Udligenwil and the ongoing conversion to Bio. In addition to these bold investments, the diversity of varieties and cultivation techniques in the high-risk business of berry production is what impressed Migros.
