2.44 metre long vegetable that makes music
The variety was developed in 2007 by Professor Sheo Pujan Singh aka ‘Bottle gourd Man’, a faculty member of the Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to Prof. Singh this variety is ready for consumption when it is up to 1 metre long and weighs up to two kg. Also, the mature full grown dried fruits can be painted into drawing room decorative items or be made into a musical instrument.
But now thebetterindia.com reports how a farmer in Sirsa has grown a plant that yielded a bottle gourd measuring 2.44 metres!
After playing one of the dried Narendra Shivani for us, Prof Singh informed us that most farmers are unaware of its use. Well, that's their loss.
