Azerbaijan and Pakistan keen to expand agricultural cooperation

On December 7, Baku hosted the first meeting of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Joint Working Group on agricultural cooperation. Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, the Pakistani Minister for National Food Security and Research, and Heydar Asadov, the Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture discussed the political relations between the two countries.

The total value of agricultural products imported from Pakistan to Azerbaijan amounted to 3 million dollars in 2016, while export from Azerbaijan to Pakistan amounted to 10,000 dollars. According to azernews.az there are plans for a work group, which would investigate the structure of imports and exports and compare prices. At present Pakistan imports agricultural products worth 7 billion dollars annually and some of these - such as grapes and apples - could be imported from Azerbaijan at lower prices.
