Masr Fruit adds Morocco products to the program
"We have started the season earlier than usual with supply to our supermarket clients mainly in UK and Germany, but also to our other clients through our distribution centre in Holland," says Max Kryeziu COO at Masr Fruit Group.
"We are known as a grower from Egypt, but from this season we are also offering a full program with products from Morocco," explains Mohsin Susi, who recently joined Masr Fruit as Commercial Manager. "We want to diversify in Europe. A wide range of products can be grown in Morocco due to the climate there, in the north of the country you have a different climate than in the south. We are growing ourselves just as we have done in Egypt with our own packing house in Agadir."
Masr Fruit have been investing in the development in Morocco for the last three years in order to establish production, and this year, will be under full production, adds Max Kryeziu.
At the moment Masr Fruit produces tomatoes, capsicums, sweet Palermo, pointed peppers, courgettes, hokkaido melon and beans and hope to have oranges from Morocco. When the season starts, clients will recognize Masr's products through the carton design which is similar to the brand Masrfresh, but with the Marocfresh brand.
The Moroccan climate is very similar to the Spanish climate but more stable. "We have seen over the last few years how unstable the climate has become and this is one thing we can't control. We will continue to produce the high quality produce from Egypt and will add the Moroccan produce. In Egypt we specialise in crops such as spring onions, garlic, oranges and sweet potatoes, so each country will have its own best products," according to Mohsin.
He goes on to say that there is a large demand from retail and wholesale for Moroccan products and Masr Fruit have the people and the knowledge to easily fill this demand. "We have a European way of working which we can bring to Morocco."
