FARM LABOUR SUPERVISOR


Company Description
We are an experienced team of horticulture and business professionals with a combined 50 years of cultivation experience in conventional and certified organic greenhouse production of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and cannabis. We have a 3-acre high tech Venlo-style pepper greenhouse located in the lower mainland that we are actively retro-fitting for Cannabis Production under the Health Canada ACMPR. We are looking for a Farm Labour Supervisor to join our team in September or October 2018.

Farm Labour Supervisor Job Description

  • Act as a leader with Harvest, Sanitation, Horticulture, Pest Control, and Quality Assurance employees and institute cross-function collaboration
  • Learn and support Standard Operating Procedures through effective communication with the QAQC person while utilizing the ability to self-teach
  • Create electronic employee schedules with respect to employment legislation, production requirements and crop needs
  • Create, present, and manage plans vs actual results as well as efficiencies
  • Focus on improvements through the development of streamlined processes and positive implementation across departments.
  • Works closely with Human Resources for all health and safety requirements, employee relation issues, hiring and orientation, training and development, disciplinary and corrective action, terminations, performance evaluations, policy and procedure, and implementation and enforcement
  • Review each employee for performance periodically and work with each employee to correct deficiencies and improve performance, attitude, and attendance
  • Performs other job duties as needed
  • Act as an “Alternate Responsible Person in Charge” at the production facility

Requirements
  • Significant experience with agricultural worker management/supervision experience is required
  • Education in Horticulture or equivalent will be considered an asset (not required)
  • Proven ability to manage, encourage, and adopt effective communication practices
  • Lean Manufacturing/Total Quality Management (or similar) training considered an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and familiar with ERP software
  • Able to support overtime and weekend work at short notice.
  • Ability to fluently communicate with employees in their first language (language TBD)
  • Experience within an organic greenhouse cultivation environment
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to obtain security clearance under the ACMPR

  • Act as a strong team player and effectively integrate into fast-paced and high-pressure teams with a strong sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines
  • Practice meticulous attention to detail
  • Be able to work independently
  • Possess strong planning and organizational skills
  • Be able to prioritize and balance a variety of projects simultaneously

Requirements for Obtaining Security under ACMPR
  • Must be 21 years of age or older proven with valid photo identification issued by the federal government of Canada or a province
  • Completion of Security Clearance Fingerprint Third Party Consent to Release Personal Information Form to a Canadian police force or private accredited fingerprinting agency accredited by the RCMP.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain security clearance under the ACMPR, including:
  1. Citizenship status and proof
  2. Any past convictions in Canada
  3. Addresses of any places you have resided within the past five years
  4. Names and addresses of places where you have worked or attended school within the last five years, including periods of unemployment and the address of your residence during periods of unemployment.
  5. Marital status – name and personal information, including citizenship status, of spouse/common-law partner. This includes past partners within the last five years
  6. Periods of travel outside of Canada that lasted 90 days or more in the last five years
