The leading agriculture consulting and R&D firm of Southeast Asia is looking for a

Vegetable Production Specialist

The location: the dream for a vegetable agronomist

The Dalat area in the Central Highlands of Vietnam has the potential to develop into the most important vegetable supply area for Urban Asia in the coming years. Blessed with a fantastic climate at 1000 m to 1600 m above sea level, rich soils and very entrepreneurial farmers, high quality fresh produce can be grown year-round. With the booming Asian economies, young growing populations, and rapid urbanisation, there is an urgent need for farmers to adopt productivity increasing and more sustainable production technologies. With its own R&D farm in Dalat, innovative value chain projects, and a network of strong international partners, Fresh Studio plays a key role in this process.

Responsibilities: exciting opportunity

To complete our R&D Crops team in Da Lat, we are looking for a Vegetable Production Specialist who has a successful track record with managing modern greenhouse horticulture farming systems, as well as practical experience with open field production.

The main responsibilities of this position are:
  • Manage our R&D farm, develop and test a wide range of different production technologies to identify value adding technologies, which will increase the productivity and profitability of local vegetable farming systems
  • Assist our clients in commercialising the successfully tested value adding technologies
  • Develop sourcing/production systems for our clients, who want to produce or source guaranteed volumes of high quality and food safe fresh produce
  • Create training programs and extension systems which lead to the adoption of improved production practices
  • Develop monitoring and feedback systems to track the performance of farmers in the extension program, and use these (quantitative) data to benchmark farmers and improve their farm management, producing crops which meet the quality specifications of clients in our sourcing projects
  • Assist the R&D Crops director with project acquisition targeting both private and public sector clients
  • Maintain, deepen our existing relations, and further expand our network within the agriculture sector, that will support access to knowhow, support project implementation and project acquisition
  • Project management

Desired qualifications and skills: our dream candidate

You combine a good education, such as a MSc degree in agronomy or horticulture, with work experience in modern horticulture farms. You might for example be a son or a daughter of a horticulture farmer, always loved helping your parents with farming, studied at an agriculture university, obtained your first work experience in the horticulture sector, but are now looking for a job where you can have a big impact. Instead of working hard on making a very small impact in already very much optimised production systems, you will have the chance to pioneer in a beautiful and safe area, with a great team, where still big breakthroughs in productivity increases can be made.

Qualifications and skills

  • MSc degree agronomy or horticulture
  • A minimum of five years’ work experience within the horticulture sector as agronomist, production manager, or extensionist
  • Practical experience with modern greenhouse vegetable production systems
  • Excellent in both verbal and written English communication
  • Experience in implementing, monitoring, analyzing and reporting upon applied R&D trials
  • A pioneer who enjoys being part of a young, dynamic, and fast growing company in one of the most rapidly developing countries in the world
  • Result-driven and passionate for excellence
  • Enthusiastic to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team
