Sublimato, the new Van Adrichem tomato nursery

On Saturday, 28 June, Van Adrichem Nurseries opened its doors in Westdorpe. The occasion also served to announce the name of this cultivation site in Zeeland. The new nursery is linked to the adjacent fertiliser plant for residual heat and CO2. Over 650 attendees visited the new nursery of Van Adrichem Nurseries, whose name, Sublimato, was announced by the third generation of the family running the company.

Prior to the announcement of the Sublimato name, a number of speakers shared some words. Firstly, all guests received a warm welcome in Terneuzen. The pride of Jan Lonink, mayor of Terneuzen, mainly focused on the continuing enterprise of the Van Adrichem family, as well as their power of innovation and collaboration. Hans van den Ende, of Hillenraad Partners, took the floor and discussed the latest developments in horticulture, and especially in the tomato sector. Major developments have taken place in the fields of flavour and cooperation, but also sustainability.

Most sustainable horticultural area in the Netherlands
The floor was then handed to Jenny Crone, of WarmCO2, which provides the residual heat and CO2 of the adjacent fertiliser plant and has thus perhaps developed the most sustainable horticultural area in the Netherlands. She believes that the advantage of family businesses is that they have the opportunity to be handed down to the next generation, and this makes them strong.

Third generation working at Sublimato growing location
"In August 2013, grandfather Geert van Adrichem Sr. set the first pole in the ground for the Sublimato Van Adrichem Nurseries in Westdorpe. In mid-January, the greenhouse was ready for the first tomato plants. In early April, the first box of vine tomatoes was harvested, and we are now proud of the progress achieved, the link made with Yara and the quality of our product which everyone could see at the opening day of our new, modern nursery without gas!" says Sjoerd van Adrichem, the third generation of Van Adrichem Nurseries, which also owns cultivation sites in De Lier and Steenbergen.

And now.

Sublimato is not only the name of the new grower, but also the name of the tomatoes from Westdorpe. The brand stands for quality, fresh supply, almost organic cultivation and minimum environmental impact with maximum flavour. In Westdorpe, the Endeavor, amongst other varieties, is grown. The sales and marketing of these sustainably-grown tomatoes from 'Sublimato' is carried out through DOOR Partners, the sales subsidiary of the DOOR cooperative.

Cooperation is the key
The family Van Adrichem is very pleased with the good cooperation with all suppliers. It is precisely through this collaboration that the construction and commissioning of Sublimato has been possible in such a short time.
Following the announcement of the name for the site, attendees enjoyed a delicious barbecue.
